Repurposing Retail Space To Support Science and Technology Innovation

Verus Research, a local technology company, had a need for a space that would drive their ability to create a world class team and secure future contracts.

The company had plans to grow, so became evident they needed a scalable, repeatable system that they could implement in any space, and that was flexible enough to accommodate a hybrid work environment. This system would be responsible for representing Verus's mission, culture and space requirements.

What resulted a scalable design that could work across any/all of Verus's facilities, one of which was a world-class electromagnetics laboratory.

Verus found a way to adaptively reuse what once was a big box store in Albuquerque that had been left vacant for years. It transformed the space into a more than 40,000-square-foot test and integration facility, providing state-of-the-art capabilities for high-power microwave, hypersonic, and radio frequency instrumentation development.

Opened in 2021, this building was renovated and ready for the Verus team in just under two months from start to finish.

Tour the Project

The space combines a mix of naturally-lit conference rooms and open-floor collaboration spaces to provide flexibility and versatility to the Verus team.
